What is a Medical Advocate?

So what is a medical advocate?

Have you ever felt lost in the world of medicine and healthcare services? Perhaps you haven’t had to interact much with this system, an ear-infection here, a broken arm there. Or perhaps you are in a different category, and have found yourself recently overwhelmed by the options of diagnosis, symptoms, treatments, therapies, and medical practitioners.  If you are in that latter category, then a medical advocate may be a solution for you and your family.

A medical advocate is a navigator that walks with you and beside you on your family’s medical journey. They are NOT  there to make medical decisions for you or act as your medical power of attorney. They are NOT a substitute for your medical team. Instead, they are there to help you coordinate your team, help you make informed decisions, help you research options, help you communicate effectively with your medical team, help you gather your medical records, help you organize and track your medical data. A medical advocate’s primary goal is to assist you, as their client, in achieving you and your family’s healthcare goals and ultimately improved quality of life for you all.

At Empowered Medical Advocacy, we specialize in medical advocacy primarily in the pediatric population. We are here to assist parents, grandparents, caregiver of children to find answers for the child they adore, allowing the entire family unit’s quality of life to improve. If you are lost, consider giving us a call at 724-613-2378 so we can discuss how we may be able to assist you, your child and your family.
